Tile & Backsplash

Backsplash Options

When deciding what to put up for your backsplash, there are a lot of considerations.

Do you want your backsplash to be a focal point, or do you want it to compliment the rest of the room?

Would you like the same material as your countertop extended onto your wall? Or would you like to add to your kitchen design by adding a tile backsplash?

Here are a few things for you to think about as you make your selections:

What to consider when making your selections.

  • Material:
There’s a plethora of options when it comes to backsplashes. We can cut a backsplash from your countertop slab – if we do this we typically do a 4″ high backsplash or if you would like a seamless look, we can extend the countertop all the way up to the underside of your kitchen cabinets or shelves. Or you can completely forgo purchasing a backsplash fabricated by us and instead you can select a tile to be laid as backsplash. We recommend browsing Pinterest to see what speaks to you. If you want a more unique backsplash design check out  TileBar. We also carry Happy Floors. They have a new line of mosaics. You can find samples of various tiles in our showroom.”
  • Cost:
Porcelain tiles are a more affordable option with many shape and color options. Smaller-format tiles, especially those with more intricate shapes, are usually more expensive than a simple, chic subway tile. If you are considering having a full-height backsplash fabricated from your countertop material, please be aware that this usually entails purchasing an additional slab of material.
  • Design:
When considering a design, you’ll find many examples online. If you have a busy countertop, a more simple backsplash will look best. The inverse is true as well: if your countertop is quite plain then you have a lot more flexibility with what design you choose for your backsplash. If you have a tight budget but want an intricate mosaic-style design, we suggest choosing a focal point and using a solid colored subway tile for the rest of the space.
  • Maintenance:
Some options are easier to clean than others. If you choose a textured tile, for example, sometimes they can form a residual coat if not cleaned regularly. On the other hand, while smooth tiles offer a surface that’s easy to clean, they can lose their shine if not wiped frequently with window cleaner or a similar product.
  • Aesthetic:
Trends come and go. You want to choose an option that you will love for years. So, while we don’t suggest throwing away your home interior guides, make sure you’re choosing a backsplash because you love it and not because it’s currently popular.
  • Color:
It’s easier to repaint a room than to take down and replace a backsplash. Choose a neutral option if your tastes change frequently.
